The Pilgrims & Plymouth Colony 1620 P9

Last week we talked about the situation regarding the Pilgrims desperately needing a miracle due to the backbone of the Mayflower, the main beam being broken by a storm and the Pilgrims having nothing on the ship to fix it. All they had was an inoperative printing press with them.

Providentially, the main component of the press was its large jackscrew. (A jackscrew is a screw that can be turned to adjust the position of an object which it fits. A vehicle jack works by a screw device and is also called a jackscrew) So when the main beam broke, the Pilgrims had with them exactly what was needed for the crew to raise the beam back into place where it could be secured, this saving their endangered lives as well as the ship.
