Diverse Patriots Other Contributors P1

American patriots came from many different backgrounds. They included:

.  HISPANICS such as Juan Miralles, and Francisco Saavedra.

.  IRISHMEN such as General Richard Montgomery and commodore John Barry

.  FRENCHMEN such as General Lafayette and Admiral de Grasse

.  POLES such as Count Pulaski and General Thaddeus Kosciusko

.  GERMANS AND PRUSSIANS such as Generals de Kalb and Von Steuben

.  INDIAN TRIBES, including the Passamaquoddy, St. John’s, Penobscot, Oneidas, Tuscaroras, and the Stockbridge Indian militia.

AND many women joined the cause, including:

.  “Captain” Margaret Corbin, who, when her husband was wounded, took over his cannon and fired with deadly accuracy; seriously wounded, she received a lifetime military disability by the Continental Congress.

.  Abigail Adams, who gathered accurate military intelligence from the Boston area for her husband John and the Continental Congress.
