Last week I ended talking about many American Patriots coming from many different backgrounds and many women who joined the cause:

Elizabeth Lewis, the wife of the Declaration signer, Francis Lewis, was made a prisoner of war for personally defying the British.

Sybil Ludington, who made an all-night Paul Revere-like ride of forty miles through New York, calling patriots to arms against a British attack.

Mary Ludwig Hays, who, when her husband was shot, took his place in the artillery corps and was awarded a military pension by the Pennsylvania legislature.

Anna Strong, part of the spy ring of George Washington’s chief intelligence officer, Major Benjamin Talmadge.
