Diverse Patriots African Americans P2

Last week I ended talking about a diverse group of individuals who fought to secure liberty and inalienable rights for every individual and several examples I gave were numerous African American patriots.

As an illustration, consider the exploits of James Armistead. He was one of the most important American spies during the War and holds the distinction of being the first double-agent in American history, helping bring the War to a close with an American victory.

Following the successful British siege of Richmond by America traitor-turned-British General Benedict Arnold, James asked his master, William Armistead, for permission to help the American forces. He joined and served with General Marquis de Lafayette, the young Frenchman who came to fight with the Americans. General Washington tasked Lafayette with gathering intelligence on the British, especially the military plans of their commanding general, Lord Cornwallis.
