Governor John Smith is probably the best-know leader of the Virginia Colony. He was indisputably an outspoken Christian, and his personal faith was reflected in many open acknowledgements of God throughout his life, including his Last Will and Testament in 1631:

“I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God, my Maker, hoping through the merit of Christ Jesus my Redeemer to receive full remission of all my sins and to inherit a place in the everlasting kingdom.”
