Providence of Almighty God in US History P12

Another common accusation against Columbus today is that he was motivated by greed and selfish lust for gold. Historical records disprove these claims.

Columbus grew up in Italy and sailed for Spain - two nations that had been beset by numerous brutal Muslim Crusades during his lifetime, the after-effects of which he had personally seen and experienced.

Today, we often hear about the Christian Crusades, of which there were eight. But what most don't hear is that there were more than 500 Muslim-initiated battles during this period of active Muslim jihad or Crusades starting three centuries before the Christian ones and lasting three centuries after them. They targeted lands held by either Christians or Jews, which were all the lands around the Mediterranean visited by Jesus, Paul, or the other Apostles... Columbus was particularly concerned about Jerusalem.
