Providence of Almighty God in US History P13

Last week I began to talk about the Christian & the Muslim Crusades. The Christian Crusades had primarily occurred to retake regions of the Holy Land from the Muslim conquerors, but those efforts largely failed. Columbus was particularly concerned about Jerusalem. Christians believe the Bible teaches that Jesus will one day return to that city and Columbus calculated, based on the theologians of his period, that "There were but 155 years left for the fulfillment of the seven thousand years spoken of in Bible books such as Daniel & Revelation. Columbus just wanted Jerusalem to be back in the hands of Christians before the return of Jesus and therefore sought to finance a campaign to recover the city.
